How to prepare

Complete these steps before Mainnet block 3,459,350. It is estimated to arrive around .

    Use a supported wallet

    Update your wallet and check that it supports the NU7 vote. Vizor, Zodl, and Zkool support voting; Keystone hardware wallets work with the voting system.

    Move eligible ZEC into Ironwood

    Make sure your ZEC is spendable, shielded, and in Ironwood before the snapshot. Allow plenty of time for the transaction to confirm and for your wallet to sync.

    Vote during the voting window

    Starting August 25, open the vote in your wallet, review each question, choose an option or abstain, and submit before .

Your balance and ballot stay hidden

This voting system is designed so no one can track your ZEC amount per vote.

Individual amounts are private

Validators cannot see how much ZEC an individual uses to vote, or connect that amount to a particular answer.

Only final totals are revealed

Individual ballots are encrypted. When voting ends, only the combined totals for each answer can be revealed. Each vote is also split into 16 unlinkable ballots to further protect balance privacy.

Protect network metadata too

Wallet RPC services may see your IP address, as in ordinary wallet use. Tor, Nym, or a VPN can help obscure that connection.

If you used the previous voting process with a Keystone, you can use your Keystone hardware wallet with this voting system too. Keystone continues to control the keys that secure your ZEC, so you do not need to move your funds out of Keystone. Follow the current instructions in your supported wallet.

Vote with confidence

  • Do not wait until the last minute to move funds into Ironwood. Confirmations and wallet syncing can take time.
  • Keep your wallet and, if applicable, Keystone firmware current before voting.
  • Keep your wallet recovery phrase and hardware wallet PIN private. No legitimate voting flow will ask you for either.
  • Review the ballot and the full discussion before voting. Abstaining is available if you do not support an option.
  • If network-level privacy matters to you, use Tor, Nym, or a VPN with your supported wallet.

Common questions

What makes my ZEC eligible to vote?
Your ZEC must be spendable, shielded, and in the Ironwood pool at the snapshot. ZEC in another pool or outside a supported wallet will not count for this vote.
Do I need to keep my ZEC in Ironwood until voting ends?
No. Once the snapshot has happened, you can move your funds. Your eligibility is based on what you held at the snapshot.
Can validators see how much ZEC I voted with?
No. Your individual amount and your choices are hidden from validators. Only the combined totals for each answer are revealed after voting closes.
Is voting private when I use a supported wallet?
The vote contents are private. As with normal wallet RPC use, the service you connect through may see your IP address, but not your vote contents or ZEC amount. Tor, Nym, or a VPN can reduce that network-level exposure.
Can I vote with a hardware wallet?
Yes. Keystone hardware wallets are supported with compatible voting wallets. Your Keystone continues to control the keys that secure your ZEC, so you do not need to move funds out of Keystone to vote.
